These new members, SARA-R52 and LEXI-R52, bring positioning and wireless communication performance to industrial settings using U-blox\u2019s custom cellular\/IoT chipset.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/file.flywing-tech.com\/res\/article\/20240709180900907dcd0ff797e4d9d4d8c08aa2fe2541b190260.png\" alt=\"\" data-href=\"\" style=\"width: 100%;\"\/><\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>U-blox\u2019s newest modules, the LEXI-R52 and SARA-R52, both provide designers with improved connectivity and positioning performance in a commercial chip.<\/em><\/h5>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\"> <\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: start;\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: start;\">While continuous tracking applications often require dedicated hardware, occasional tracking or integrated tracking\/communication use cellular connectivity to provide a rough estimate of a device&#8217;s position. U-blox\u2019s latest modules target concurrent positioning and communication applications.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: start;\"> <\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: start;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"concurrent_position_and_communication\"><\/span>Concurrent Position and Communication<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: start;\">The<span style=\"color: rgb(255, 122, 69);\"> new U-blox modules<\/span> support simultaneous positioning and communication, allowing designers to precisely target more applications with a single chip. Both chips leverage the UBX-R52 series of LTE chips to provide wireless connectivity. The flagship module, the <span style=\"color: rgb(255, 122, 69);\">SARA-R52<\/span>, accomplishes this concurrent performance with an integrated GNSS receiver and U-blox&#8217;s SpotNow technology for occasional tracking\u2014yielding a 10 m accuracy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: start;\">The<span style=\"color: rgb(255, 122, 69);\"> LEXI-R52<\/span>, on the other hand, only leverages the SpotNow solution due to its smaller overall size compared to the SARA-R52 series (16 \u00d7 16 mm versus 16 \u00d7 26 mm). This allows designers to target a wider range of devices, from handheld, portable trackers to large industrial solutions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: start;\">U-blox upgraded both modules&#8217; transmit power, extending into the 23 dBm LTE power class and allowing longer-range connectivity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: start;\">\n<h2 style=\"text-align: start;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"integrated_processing\"><\/span>Integrated Processing<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: start;\">In addition to its cellular features, the new U-blox modules make use of the peripherals included in the UBX-R52 series of LTE chips\u2014primarily, the open CPU (uCPU) and Smart Connection Manager (uSCM) for embedded performance and an assortment of interfaces, including I2C, SPI, GPIO, and ADC. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: start;\">With the uCPU, designers can forego external microcontrollers to instead leverage the on-chip capabilities built into the R52 hardware. If, for example, a connection is lost and must be reestablished, the uSCM can efficiently reconnect, allowing designers to focus development time elsewhere. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: start;\">\n<h2 style=\"text-align: start;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"a_broad_application_landscape\"><\/span>A Broad Application Landscape<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: start;\">As wireless connectivity continues to grow, the SARA-R52 and LEXI-R52 series of LTE-M modules may be a useful embedded solution for both GNSS positioning and cellular connectivity.
